Entrepreneurship!! What should educational institutions do???

Our honourable President A.P.J.Abdul Kalam always stresses on the need for grooming new age entrepreneurs in every address of his with the budding citizens i.e the students of today's generation and the citizens of the future. These thoughts of his has inspired me to think more and blog on the same. Any ordinary man will wonder why entrepreneurship is needed to overcome unemployment problems of our country... But the real fact remains that grooming new age entrepreneurs is the best way to overcome the problems.

With our country having educational institutes like the IITs which produces world-class engineers and the IIMs which boasts about producing the best managers and CEOs, are they really producing entrepreneurs in spite of having the so called "cutting-edge techology"? These premier institutes can do much more than what they are doing!! Every year lakhs of students take the "tough entrance exams" conducted by these institutes and a less than 10% make it into these institutes!!In the final year or mostly in the pre-final year students are absorbed by the top MNCs which offer a six figure salary much to the happiness of the Indian students who don't think beyond this six figure salary they are offered. The rest is history wherein the IIT or IIM passout is transferred to some foreign country which is the apt example for brain drain!!! Why don't our youth think beyond these.... Do they think of starting their own enterprises (atleast at some point of time) rather than being an employee throughout their lives? Very few poeple start their own enterprises. What about the rest who are trained so meticulously in every key area? Perhaps the scenario should change for the good where the passouts think of entrepreneurship on a long term basis.I personally would say that the IITs and IIMs are successful only if 65% students of a particular batch start off their own companies giving employment to atleast 10 people in the beginning stage.

Is it the mistake of the students who don't become entrepreneurs?? Certainly not!The very basic fact remains that students need to be taught about the need for entrepreneurship in their early stages of life. Every mother asks her child whether he wants to become a doctor or an engineer or a lawyer but never an entrepreneur!! Yes, every mother is proud when her son or daughter graduates as a professional. Whose success is that? An individual graduating out of a professional college pens a success story only for him and his family, but an individual who provides employment carves his own niche in the society. He is a saviour for those in need of a job.

All premier institutes should not only provide quality education but also produce net worthy individuals who have entrepreneurial qualities in them. They should be aware of the impending needs of the country. They should have value based education which streses on the awareness of the individuals' strength, weakness, opportunities and threats. Institutions should start their own club or a network that can actively create awareness about entrepreneurship. Every student of this nation should aspire to develop world class industries in various industrial sectors!!!

More postings to come on various topics!!!Wait n watch!!

Its a gud thot and m glad its coming from an youngster and a budding entrepreneur I assume...
Educational institutions cant be blamed much... coz its become more of a business to them... so lets start thinking as individuals wat can we do? Instead of pointing out only the IITs and IIMs, lets start thinking wat are the other options that we have...wat role do parents play? wat role does media play? wats the response that youngsters give wen it comes to entrepreneur?
Wat are th options for those interested? Who wud guide them? Wat about the finances?
may be ur next blog can give some facts and information dat the budding entrepreneurs can use.
All the best!!!

Congrats prashanth for your efforts in presenting a good article. Though educational institutions play an important role, but they are only one of the means and not the end.. don't forget the internal and external factors.. in this fast changing global scenerio, youngters should try to come up and grab the opportunities that knocks them.. time to think what they can do for the society. It is over-whelming to see the youngters like prashanth coming up with such good ideas, our country could sure count on youngters.. good luck and best wishes

Its really an awe inspiring thought that too from an youngster with innovative thoughts & ideas..nowadays education has bcom more lik a business having lost its real value..when only 10% of the candidates make it to the door steps of classrooms of top institutions, then only that 10% will be in top positions & successful.. but really fact is not so.. the business ethics and right time of applying business tactics & business strategies is the most important task even for an IIM product for that matter..If there is a talk or so called fact that only IIM's are successful, then how come MR.NARAYAN MOORTHY was able to bring IIM itself?BILL GATES for that matter.. how?we should think about this.. it'l be a remarkable achievement if this article with further updations & modifications is sent to any leading newspaper or magazine..surely we'l get the desired results atleast by the time our kids join these institutions.. jokes apart!Thats the current scenario..so,we..the youngsters hav to take the initiative before its high time..Hats off to MR.PRASHANTH on behalf of the youngsters for giving a start to this at the 1st place.proud of you!!lets form the chain of initiative by joining hands with prashanth..

The answer to today's dilema is very simple. We need better communication. There is no denying that better communication skills will land u in a better job with better pay. India's youth is very talented and intelligent but they definitely need to improve upon communication skills if they want to play or work with the big guys.

The article was quite intresting & makes youth to think beyond the six figured salary. I dont think so it will be applicable in quite few years in India but it would happen someday & we can see an developed nation on that date.

well....this one is definetly from a budding X-gen enterpreneur!!!...Institutes can do a lot on inculcating d thought of enterpreneurship in d prospective leaders but its the sole interest, alacrity and enthusiasm of d individual to be daring enough to look beyond d 6 or 7-figured salary jobs n start up their own enterprise!!!....well...in short...this blog serves as an eye opener and wake up call to all the budding management-aspirants and students!!!

hmmm.. when u r at 20 or 21.. u have two options..
1. earn using wat u ve learnt
2. earn more by investing yr father's money..
When yr dad is not ready for it.. u need a lot of time to work, earn and then to start your own business..
U cannot straight away go for a loan bcos u cannot afford to take risks when ve not even started yr career..

So its better to set this as a goal
"I ll be a successful entrepreneur when i m 40"
